How many times have you heard the phrase, ” Worry Less, Pray More” ???
I think we’ve all heard it a million times and probably have SAID it at least a Zillion more. (OOOPS..)
Let’s be real… It’s much easier to tell someone else to “Worry Less, Pray More”, than it is to actually live this out situation by situation in your own life… (amirite?)
Just so we’re clear:
What exactly does it mean to worry?
to give way to anxiety or unease; to allow one’s mind to dwell on difficult troubles.
to live in a state of anxiety and uncertainty over actual or potential problems.
The truth is, at some point in our lives, we’ve all had things that have kept us awake at night. We’ve all had to fight that nagging pull of uneasiness in the pit of our stomach that causes us to worry about something that could potentially go wrong. It’s what we do with those worries that can make or break us in a moment.
Have you ever gotten the advice ” Just try not to think about it!!” ?
Ok, ya sure.
Try telling someone to NOT think about a giant cheeseburger… Chances are they’ll instantly start thinking about a giant cheeseburger. (Sorry If I made you think about a giant cheeseburger… haha)
The first step in dealing with our worries is to acknowledge that they are there. Then REPLACE them with what the Word of God says now, so they will not resurface later.
So, how do I personally deal with my worries?
(Sample Prayer List)
Yep, I make a prayer list out of my anxieties, worries, and fears! This is my way of acknowledging what I am feeling and then bringing them before the Lord! Then, I like to find and meditate on scriptures like:
Meditating on and confessing truth over your worries can be key to receiving freedom and victory over them!
How long do I keep my “worries” on my prayer list?
I keep mine on my list until I feel like they are no longer a struggle, and the time varies from situation to situation.
Some of you may be saying, “DUH! I already do this..”
But, some of you may have just had an “AHA!” moment!
So, I want to challenge the latter! I challenge you to write down your worries and bring them to the Lord in prayer. Replace those anxieties that keep you awake at night by meditating on and confessing the Word of God into your situation. This has helped me TREMENDOUSLY and I pray that it helps you too!
If you do try this, I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! 🙂
DISCLAIMER: I am not saying this is a quick and easy fix for every situation. Everyone is on a different journey and sometimes seeking help from a professional is the right thing for you. If that is you, then I advise you to do that.
